Market

A heat-pounding global thriller that anchors a ticking-clock child rescue story with a corrupt political conspiracy. A mainstream, action-driven rescue movie with the prestige, award-worthy depth of a modern political drama.

Synopsis

THE GULFSTREAM is an emotionally charged international thriller about guilt, redemption, and the price of looking away.

Five years after a failed operation resulted in the disappearance of his nephew Daniel, former intelligence operative Micah Cole has spent his life carrying the weight of that loss. When new evidence reveals that Daniel is alive and being held within a sophisticated child-trafficking network operating through the Caribbean, Micah embarks on a desperate mission to bring him home before time runs out.

His search draws him into the orbit of Senator Jack Barrett, a veteran lawmaker who has spent years trying to force Washington to confront a hidden trafficking crisis that powerful institutions would rather ignore. In Santo Domingo, investigative journalist Elena Voss uncovers evidence connecting the trafficking operation to an elaborate international conspiracy, while former investigator Rafael Ortiz risks everything to help dismantle the organization responsible for countless disappearances. At the center of the humanitarian response stands Sister Marie-Claire, whose shelter has become a refuge for children rescued from the network and whose moral clarity challenges everyone around her.

Opposing them is Esteban Márquez, the sophisticated and deeply dangerous architect of a trafficking empire that has flourished for decades by exploiting the blind spots of governments, corporations, and law enforcement agencies across the globe. Yet an even more unsettling force operates in the shadows... Kabir Rahman, a brilliant strategist disillusioned by a lifetime of witnessing injustice, who has secretly engineered events around a single extraordinary child whom he believes possesses the power to awaken a world that has grown numb to suffering.

As a Gulfstream jet prepares for a final flight carrying trafficked children out of the country, the lives of Micah, Barrett, Elena, Rafael, Marie-Claire, Kabir, and Márquez collide in a race against time that spans countries, challenges institutions, and forces each of them to confront the difference between what is right, what is necessary, and what they are willing to sacrifice to save a child.

THE GULFSTREAM is a prestige international thriller that combines relentless suspense with an emotionally resonant rescue story, exploring the cost of looking away — and the courage required to save even one child.

Cast as listed in the project overview: six considerations and one confirmed role (Anjul Nigam as Kabir Rahman).

Main characters

Micah Cole

Consideration: Jeremy Renner

A former intelligence operative whose life has been defined by a single catastrophic failure, Micah has spent five years carrying the guilt of losing his young nephew during a botched rescue operation. Disciplined, methodical, and emotionally isolated, he approaches the world through procedure because procedure is the only thing he trusts. When he learns his nephew may still be alive inside an international trafficking network, Micah is forced to confront not only the mission before him, but the grief and self-recrimination that have defined his existence. At his core, Micah is a man seeking redemption, willing to risk everything for one final chance to make things right.

Senator Jack Barrett

Consideration: Mel Gibson

A veteran United States senator and former military officer, Barrett has spent years warning Washington about a growing trafficking crisis hidden beneath layers of bureaucracy, politics, and institutional indifference. Intelligent, relentless, and increasingly frustrated by a system that refuses to act, he serves as both strategist and moral catalyst for the operation. Barrett understands how power protects itself, and his greatest battle is not against criminals but against institutions determined to look the other way. Beneath his hard exterior is a man who has sacrificed much of his personal life in pursuit of a cause few others are willing to confront.

Esteban Márquez

Consideration: John Leguizamo

Known throughout the Caribbean, Esteban Márquez is the sophisticated architect of a trafficking empire that spans continents. Charismatic, cultured, and highly intelligent, he views himself as a businessman who has simply learned how the world truly works. Esteban is neither impulsive nor cruel for cruelty's sake; his power comes from patience, discipline, and his understanding that governments, corporations, and criminals often share the same blind spots. Yet beneath his polished exterior remain traces of the man he once hoped to be, making him all the more dangerous — and tragic.

Elena Voss

Consideration: AnnaSophia Robb

An investigative journalist who has spent years documenting disappearances tied to Márquez's network, Elena is driven by equal parts determination and survivor's guilt. Brilliant, resourceful, and fearless when pursuing the truth, she believes exposure can be as powerful as any weapon. The disappearance of a source she failed to protect continues to haunt her, fueling an obsession with accountability that sometimes puts her at odds with those around her. Elena represents the power of bearing witness in a world increasingly determined not to listen.

Rafael Ortiz

Consideration: Clifton Collins Jr.

A former investigator whose pursuit of missing children has cost him his career, relationships, and peace of mind, Rafael is a man who has spent years staring down directly into darkness. Practical, unsentimental, and greatly respected by those who know him, he understands both the mechanics of trafficking networks and the toll of fighting them. While others are motivated by hope, Rafael is motivated by persistence. He no longer expects justice. He simply refuses to stop looking. His partnership with Micah is forged through mutual recognition of loss, sacrifice, and responsibility.

Sister Marie-Claire

Consideration: Lupita Nyong’o

A Congolese-French humanitarian and shelter director, Sister Marie-Claire has devoted her life to helping trafficked children recover from unimaginable trauma. Calm, perceptive, and morally uncompromising, she serves as the conscience of the story. Unlike the others who are focused on catching criminals or exposing conspiracies, her focus is on what happens after the rescue. Through her work, she understands that saving a child is only the beginning. Her wisdom and humanity challenge everyone around her to see the children not as victims or evidence, but as people deserving dignity, healing, and hope.

Kabir Rahman

Confirmed: Anjul Nigam

Known as the Scholar, a brilliant former intelligence strategist whose lifelong exposure to human suffering has left him profoundly disillusioned, Kabir occupies a morally complex center. After decades of documenting atrocities that produced little meaningful change, he has concluded that truth alone is insufficient to move the world. Determined to create a witness powerful enough to force global attention, Kabir secretly orchestrates events around a remarkable child, the next prophet, who he believes can awaken society's conscience. Compassionate and increasingly dangerous, he is a man whose noble intentions have led him into dangerous moral territory.
