Two Shades of Green cover

[Spoken Intro]

(Green): Top of the day mate.

(Green): This be Green attempting to get in contact with you.

(Green): Hope all is well. I got an urgent matter I wanna take up with you...

(Chris): What is the urgent matter, sir? Talk to me.

[Beat Drop]

[Verse 1]

(Green): Yeah, Chris in Manhattan, movin' like a plan-man

(Green): Movie in his left hand, business in his right hand!

(Green): If you come around, better come about a count

(Green): Better come with purpose, put some money down.

(Green): He always help somebody, he always raise the floor

(Green): Turn a small shot to a door, then he open more.

(Green): Nice home days to a shoebox room

(Green): Price still mean a lot, but he adapt and boom!

(Green): He can pack up, bounce quick, land anywhere he ought

(Green): Even if Tina there, man, his mind stay locked!

(Green): He don't miss the mission, he just keeps it hot

(Green): Say it plain, say it clean, take a shot!

[Pre-Chorus]

(Nia): Trudi on the calendar, tomorrow in the light

(Nia): And the people need Chris to help the day take flight!

(Nia): Birthday tomorrow and Chris won't be near

(Nia): So the people need his help, need his move right here.

(Nia): Make her day feel bigger, make that table shine

(Nia): Make the whole thing happen on a short deadline!

[Chorus]

(Nia): If it's business, say it now, Chris don't play around!

(Nia): If it's business, say it now, bring the value down!

(Nia): Help somebody, lift somebody, that's the way he lives

(Nia): Please chip in, please chip in

(Nia): Credit where it's due, yeah, credit where it's due

(Nia): Even if you overseas, he'll make it back to you!

[Break]

[Spoken Interlude]

(Chris): Man... you hype me up just to pass the hat, huh?

(Chris): Let me tell you about Green...

[Verse 2]

(Chris): Please excuse if I'm being too friendly

(Chris): But green with cash, turns to green with envy.

(Chris): Color me bad, 'cause it might be a frenzy

(Chris): Green triggers words and thoughts that are unending.

(Chris): Listen, green is the color that would make you kill a brother

(Chris): Green is the color of life, where there is no other.

(Chris): But we trade the green for grey, lock ourselves away

(Chris): Forget about each other just to hustle for the pay.

(Chris): Green is the color of the plant we smoke to surrender

(Chris): A gift and a curse, ask the buyer and the vendor.

(Chris): The tree sheds its green just to see a rebirth

(Chris): But the green that you know got you tied to the dirt.

(Chris): It's sticky. Makes people do things that are icky

(Chris): Got you hitting up my phone, trying to maneuver quickly.

(Chris): It's the choices we make, and keep doing on repeat

(Chris): Doing it like yesterday, trapped in the same street.

(Chris): It might seem simple, but make a new choice, man

(Chris): Tomorrow's a new day. Green and new... understand?

[Verse 3]

(Green): Come on man, if you got a little to loan!

(Green): To green the whole thing up, put the party in the zone!

(Chris): I hear you talking fast, trying to put it on a card...

(Green): Give a little now, watch it come back hard!

(Green): What you pour into the day don't stay gone too long!

(Chris): Yeah, credit where it's due... but you singing the same song.

(Nia): Two shades of green, boys, and I'm the one who's counting.

[Outro]

[Spoken Word]

(Chris): Top of the green to you, sir.

(Chris): Tell Trudi happy birthday for me.

(Chris): I'll send a little something... but remember what I said about making new choices.

[Fade Out]

[End]

01 · Two Shades of Green

Hype 90s boom-bap → laid-back jazz-rap conscious flow

🎶 The Sizzle: A phone call becomes a duet: a fast-talking hype-man pitch over dusty 90s boom-bap, then the beat breaks and a laid-back jazz-rap verse answers it, before the two trade bars to the end.

🎬 The Story: Two men, one word. The promoter hears green and means cash; the philosopher hears green and means envy, weed, grey city walls and the tree that drops its leaves to grow again. One birthday, one favour, two shades of the same colour.
